This is disappointing and stupid. I am a multigenerational New Englander with very good genealogical records. I can't count the number of second cousin marriages in my family. This was totally normal in New England. It is not an issue and this reporting is low blow. Anyone who is familiar with our region should know this and not make a spectacle. I cant convey enough how low blow this is. Second cousin marriage is a force multiplier for family wealth and family values. There is no reason to take shots at the "insularity" of the Allagash region. You are turning on your own here. There is plenty to criticize. Don't stupe so low.

I completely agree that Allagash and rural Maine do not deserve to be painted as a land of incest and stupidity, but keep in mind that this man is a Democrat. As much as I don't like Jacksons' political work or possible future, I have to agree with your comment. I see two consenting adults not hurting anybody with their personal decision, and there's far worse things in Jacksons' PROFESSIONAL past that make him a terrible choice. Attacking the "feelings" of our brethren who have practiced this without genealogical consequences only makes it harder for conservatives to find friends in hard to reach places.
